Glass Pool Table
I saw an interesting pool table the other day. It is made largely of glass and metal, with a see-through playing surface. Not only can you see the balls go in the pocket, you can see them roll back to the collection area through the clear bed. This is an 8 foot table.
A new material called Vitrik replaces the felt cloth on the glass bed of the table. According to the website, this Vitrik replicates the rolling resistance of a traditional felt playing surface and plays just like regular pool table cloth.
The slate is replaced with a 3/4 inch sheet of transparent hardened glass. The edge of the glass bed is esposed under the rail assemblies. That must be an odd sensation shooting at pool balls that look they are floating on air. It must give playing an almost 3-D effect.
It’s kind of cool and different to have the balls completely exposed that way. Now you can see what happens after you sink a ball.
This futuristic-looking beauty doesn’t exactly come cheap however. The current price is $39,900 Australian dollars, which at the time of this writing, comes out to about $27,000 US dollars. A hefty price tag, but an unusual looking pool table.
